Something Wicked This Way Comes 2010

So we pretty much kept the decorations the same as last year but added a few more lights and some craft pumpkins (which we have yet to carve) in the house that will go outside to light the stairs Halloween night.

Here's a close-up of the planter. My awesome husband was able to maneuver the pumpkins into their proper positions.

Ellie's Bridal Shower

On July 24th was my close friend Ellie's bridal shower. We did a 1950's Housewives theme. It was so much fun! Here are some pictures from the party:

Paper Anniversary

In January we decided as a part of our paper anniversary we would make a photo book of our first year of marriage. Then we though how cool would it be to make a photo book of every year of our marriage! Every year we will make one of these books. The book for last year turned out great! I'm a little sad, after both Trevor and I bother proof-read it there were still a couple of mistakes that we didn't catch before we purchased a printed copy. I have since correct the errors. For this album we used shutterfly.com. Next year's album we're going to try blurb.com. The prices are comparable so we want to see how the quality differs. We'll let you know what we think.

Spring has Sprung!

February has come and gone and it's time for a new centerpiece. I love how this brandy vase has gotten so much use! It was first used at our wedding as our well wishes bowl, where guests wrote messages for our guest book, which I still haven't finished! Now, it's used for our dining table centerpiece.

For spring, I have filled it with silk Gerbera daisies I picked up on sale (50% off) at Micheal's. At first I cut the flowers using our pruners but soon discovered that I can just pull the flower from the stem! Hooray! It definitely made things way easier and faster! I also made one for the planter outside.

The smaller one is for the planter outside of our front door.

I had some left over bouquets that I put in a couple of vases I have and simple arrangement to brighten our living room and kitchen. The light pink vase is the vase Trevor gave me when he proposed and the dark pink vase is the one Trevor gave me when he gave me my first bouquet.

It's really weird seeing all these beautiful spring blooms around the house when it's still snowing outside! But it definitely makes everything inside the house warm and cheery! Silvia seems to like them too!

Valentine's Day fun!

I found these cute foam hearts on sale at Joann's. So I got thinking and bought some glitter glue and we created this:

We wrote inside jokes, our wedding song, and other random loving messages.

Deck the Halls

I love the holiday season! It's so much fun! The cutest thing just happened! We had carolers come by the house! I've always seen it on tv. Never in real life! How wonderful! Here are some things we've been doing to get ourselves in the holiday spirit.

I found this awesome Advent Calendar at Target for $20. I love that it is reusable! Each day we read from the blue advent books which has a little tidbit about saints, traditions, etc and on the other page a scripture reading and a reflection to do. In each of the little boxes I've filled it with chocolates or an activity to do. It's also a very cute decoration.

Our Christmas tree with all the beautiful presents underneath. The ornament on the right was our cake topper Dad Boone carved and turned into an ornament for us! We also have carving of all our bridesmaids and groomsmen.

Our spooktacular Halloween decorations on a budget...


The overall look

We made these spooky silhouettes from the leftover cardboard boxes from our move to Flagstaff and the leftover packing paper we found in our garage from the previous owners.

1. We outlined and cut out scary pictures of ghosts and bats.
2. Then we painted the cardboard black and taped the packing paper on the back.
3. Next we hung the spooky silhouettes in our staircase windows and turned on the lights.

Cost of the project: $1 for the paint.


Our awesome pumpkins! Trevor's is based on Castle Crashers; an awesome XBox360 game!


We found this awesome lighted tree at Micheal's on Halloween day. It was 40% off. Regular was $60. We got it for $35. It was perfect!

The garlands, vase, pumpkin we bought at Michaels. The pine cones in the vase are from our own backyard.

Autumn Wreath

I made a really simple Autumn wreath for the door that leads to our back porch. It cost a total of $8. I bought the 3 red and orange bead garlands ($2 each) and a grapevine ($1.99) wreath from Micheals when they were on sale. Then I wrapped the bead garland around the wreath. I found a red ribbon that I had lying around and tied that to the wreath so that I could hang it from the door. The door already has hooks that the previous owner had for curtains.

Like I said, it's really simple and looks simple too. My plan is to get other bead garlands and change them out as the seasons change. It makes me happy when I look at it.
