Charice Pempengco

I just had to post this video of this amazing little girl from the Philippines who's dreams of being a singer are coming to reality. She's well known in the Philippines. She has been on Oprah on and off since 2008. As a little girl, her dad tried to kill her mom before neighbors intervened and she witnessed it all. She's an amazing singer!

Keep Your Comments to Yourself

Today I am irritated by the unconscious rudeness of others. At work today, we had a lot of CNAs call off so I was calling around to find replacements. One of the CNAs I got a hold of told me, "I am a Christian. I believe that Sunday is a day of rest. So I can't come in to work." I nicely thanked her and said bye. But her comments did not sit well with me.

Lub Dub Lub Dub

What's that? The sound of a healthy heart? Oh how sweet the sound!

Today my new stethoscope arrived! Hooray! Some of you may know I lost my Littmann Classic II stethoscope at Scottsdale Healthcare (SHC) the day before our floor moved to the 5th floor for renovation. I was so sad! My parents bought it for me prior to starting nursing school. As many of you know, stethoscopes, good ones, are not cheap. That stethoscope has through a lot with me. I'm still sad that I lost my pretty burgundy, nursing school, Littmann.

For the last year, I have gone without a nice stethoscope. I have been using a disposable one I got from SHC and one my mom got. How sweet is she? She got it for me to use once I started working in Flagstaff.

At my current job, I've been working more as unit manager, which requires me to have a good stethoscope. Elderly sick people do not have good lungs sounds and are very difficult to hear. So I buckled and decided to buy myself a new stethoscope. I bought the Littmann Cardiology III in plum. I debated long and hard between plum and burgundy, ask Trevor. Finally I just flipped a coin. It comes with a 5 year warranty and free engraving on the bell! So if any tries to claim my stethoscope as theirs, they can't without scratching my name off! I found it on Medisave.com, which has one of the cheapest prices around for stethoscopes!

As soon as the stethoscope arrived I gave it a test run on myself. It's amazing! I could hear my heart and lungs so well! It was fantastic! I'm unit manager again tomorrow. Can't wait to give this puppy a run! And I promise I will not lose this one (not that I purposely lost my other one).

Office Baby!

As most people know we don't have cable. We are able to get some local channels and have reasonably good reception. Unfortunately we are unable to watch some our favorite shows like 30 Rock and The Office the day they are on. Thank God for Hulu.com, which allows us to watch them the day after!

Today we watched the Office Baby episode! The second half was much better than the first. The first half was just disturbing. Pam was having contractions 2 minutes apart, her water broke, and she was still refusing to go to the hospital! Eeks! The second half had so many tender moments. Definitely gave me a little baby fever.

This episode hit a little close to home for me. As some of you know we were expecting last summer. Our baby would have been born some time around March 26th. Our baby's name, if it was a girl, was going to be Cecelia Rose Boone. The Office baby's name is Cecelia Marie Halpert. I told Trevor it was like Jim and Pam had our baby for us. It was a soothing and cathartic in a weird way.
Congratulations Jim and Pam!

Grr!

I'm so frustrated with my new job. Attempting to keep a positive attitude (and I think I'm succeeding at fooling people at work), but my poor poor husband and mom who have to listen to all my griping! I'm so grateful to have them to vent to.

But seriously...I'm so unhappy with my job right now. I'm also trying to watch what I say to who at my new job. Never know when something will bite you in the butt and nursing is notoriously known for venting frustrations to you coworkers as well as generally catiness (mainly because we are predominently women). Which I think is a sad thing about woman to woman interactions. Can't we all just get along. So far no catiness at this facility but being new, I want to be on my gaurd, especially when venting frustrations at work. I miss working with guys! They just bring something to the field of nursing that women can't and they lighten the mood and atmosphere. Must be that testoserone counteracting the effects of estrogen!

I miss my old job at Scottsdale Osborn on the ortho/neuro flooor so much! On the bright side, I do like my co-workers. They've all got spunk. Hoping and praying that things get better! On the bright side I have July 4th off...on the sad side I work the day we have tickets to go see Wicked...even after I put in a request. I'll have to find someone to work for me. =(

I'll update soon with pictures of the changes to the house and new projects we're working on.

Hi Ho Hi Ho....

Sadly, this is a song I no longer sing.
Job hunting sucks!

I don't remember looking for a job being this hard before. Maybe because it wasn't. I've definitely had to be more aggressive and even creative in my search.

You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover

Judgements...

Since I first started driving I have a nasty habit of leaving my keys in my car. Every time I get out of the car I deliberately take my keys out place them in my purse or back pocket and take a mental note (or at least I try to). Yesterday...I locked my keys in the car. Thank God Trevor decided to take the spare key with him to work. Otherwise we'd be in a pretty pickle. What's funny is Trevor said that morning I'll just take this in case you never know. Ever since we moved to CA I've had this feeling that something like this might happen so I've tried to be very cautious. But alas, things happen.

Today we are making steaks for dinner. I went to the courtyard yesterday to see if the grills were working. I check grill #1 and the flame is so low I think it's not working. So I move on to grill #2. I follow the instructions careful to keep my body back and VOOSH! Flames at least a foot high spurt from the grill. "Wow!," I think, "That was awfully close to my face." So I decide to go tell management about the broken grill #1. He shows me that grill #1 is actually working and is their newest model. He gives me a tip to turn it on an hour before we're ready to grill so it is warm enough. I thank him and go back to the apartment. I walk in the bathroom and the front part of my hair is FRIED! As some of you know my hair is very short now, chin length (I cut off at least 10 inches and donated it to Locks of Love). So seeing the front part of my hair fried made me start to tear up. After I got over the initial shock, I cut off the burnt parts of my hair. Luckily it wasn't a whole lot that got fried.

Something that was reiterated to me yesterday is...You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover.

I thought yesterday was going to be absolutely horrible. I was late getting dinner ready. My hair caught on fire. I locked my keys in my car. But it actually turned out to be a really good day. Dinner was worth the wait. It was only my hair that got burnt and not my face. My hair will grow and no surgery and huge medical bills will be incurred. Trevor had the spare car key with him. God was looking out for us yesterday. And at the end of the day when I checked my email...our wedding photos were ready!!! =) Yay!!! =)

Honey and Vinegar

I think that everyone not only do patients at the hospital get a little nutty when there's a full moon! Seriously people...manners! There was a lady at Target trying to return some items. She was very irate and I felt bad for her. She was wearing scrubs and she very frustratingly explained to the Targer customer service lady that she was on her lunch break trying to return diapers that wouldn't stick and stay on her little one . Then she turned around and yelled at the man behind me and I that we were standing too close and should be standing over where the "please wait sign." Yes, she has a point...so I stepped back some more. But most people don't actually stand where that sign is unless there's a long line and all the little counters are filled. On top of that...she was talking so loud I would have heard her no matter where I was standing in line. That wasn't so bad really...but I was already irritated that day so that didn't make me any happier.
After returning some stuff at Target I headed to Costco to get some gas and pick up some stuff. There was a car in front of me turning into the gas station and the car behind me start honking incessantly. Who does that! What would you like me to do...run into the car in front of me? Really...rudness! Then when it was my turn to turn into the gas station, the drive again started to honk incessantly. I so wanted to just put my brakes on and park my car right in the middle of the street. That driver was the straw that broke the camels back! I was fuming mad! Really...was that necessary? I know the world isn't full of rude mannerless people but there are truly times I think it is.
But the cashier at Costco was very nice and actually made me feel better about the world.
You attract more bees with honey than vinegar!
